Interview with Joseph Ikyobo

1. Congratulations on your degree! How do you think this new achievement will impact your career and the future of Freesami Media?

Thank you! Earning my degree in Mass Communication has been a significant milestone. This achievement not only enhances my credibility but also equips me with deeper theoretical and practical knowledge that I can apply to Freesami Media. I believe this will help us innovate further in digital marketing strategies and content creation, allowing us to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving media landscape. Our goal is to leverage this knowledge to expand our reach and impact, fostering more talent and delivering even higher quality content to our audience.

2. You’ve made a significant impact in the entertainment industry, particularly in music promotion and digital marketing. What drives your passion for elevating artists and content creators?

My passion stems from a deep appreciation for creativity and the transformative power of storytelling. Growing up in Benue, I saw many talented individuals whose potential was untapped due to lack of exposure and resources. This motivated me to create a platform like Freesami Media, where we could amplify these voices and provide them with the opportunities they deserve. Seeing artists succeed and knowing that I played a role in their journey is incredibly fulfilling and drives me to continue pushing the boundaries.

3. As a seasoned blogger and media expert, how do you stay ahead of the curve in terms of industry trends and innovations, and what advice do you have for aspiring bloggers and media professionals?

Staying ahead requires continuous learning and adaptation. I regularly attend industry conferences, participate in webinars, and network with other professionals to stay updated on the latest trends and technologies. For aspiring bloggers and media professionals, my advice is to remain curious and never stop learning. Embrace new technologies, be adaptable, and most importantly, stay true to your passion and vision. Authenticity resonates with audiences and will set you apart in a crowded market.

4. Your work with popular celebrities has been notable. Can you share any memorable experiences or success stories from your collaborations, and what do you think sets you apart as a media professional?

One of the most memorable experiences was collaborating with Rugged Man on a campaign that significantly boosted his online presence and engagement. Another highlight was the Glo in 60 Seconds talent hunt, where we helped elevate Ejembi Simon Inass (Trageel) and Daniel Ikyobo (President EMS) to new heights. What sets me apart is my holistic approach to promotion – I focus on building authentic connections and understanding each artist’s unique vision and needs, which allows us to create tailored strategies that yield remarkable results.

5. As the winner of the MACOSA 2024 Leadership Award, how did that recognition impact your career, and what message do you have for emerging creatives and entrepreneurs in the industry?

Winning the MACOSA 2024 Leadership Award was a humbling and motivating experience. It validated the hard work and dedication I’ve put into my career and Freesami Media. This recognition has opened doors to new opportunities and collaborations, further solidifying our position in the industry. My message to emerging creatives and entrepreneurs is to stay focused, be resilient, and embrace continuous learning. Leadership is about inspiring and empowering others, so always strive to uplift those around you.

6. How do you balance your creative pursuits with the business side of running a media company, and what strategies have been most effective for you in terms of monetization and growth?

Balancing creativity and business requires a structured approach and effective time management. I allocate specific times for creative brainstorming and business operations, ensuring neither is neglected. For monetization and growth, diversifying our revenue streams has been crucial. We offer digital marketing services, content creation, and distribution, and we also run talent hunts and events. Building strong relationships with brands and leveraging data-driven marketing strategies have been instrumental in our growth.

7. What’s next for Freesami Media? Any exciting projects, partnerships, or expansions on the horizon that you’re looking forward to sharing with your audience?

We have several exciting projects lined up. We’re expanding our talent hunt programs to discover and nurture more emerging artists across Africa. Additionally, we’re exploring partnerships with international media companies to bring global opportunities to our local talents. We’re also investing in new technologies to enhance our digital distribution capabilities. Stay tuned, as we’ll be announcing more details soon!

8. As a mass communications graduate from Benue State University, how do you think your educational background has influenced your approach to media and entertainment, and what advice do you have for students and young professionals in the field?

My education provided a strong foundation in understanding the principles of effective communication, media ethics, and audience engagement. It has influenced my approach by emphasizing the importance of storytelling and the ethical responsibilities we hold as media professionals. My advice to students and young professionals is to focus on building a solid educational foundation, seek internships and practical experiences, and never underestimate the power of networking.
