Soyinka’s Caution: Obi’s Team’s Incompetence Raises Doubts for Future Elections

Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka has expressed reservations about Peter Obi’s potential candidacy in the upcoming elections, citing concerns about the competence of Obi and his team. In a recent interview with Noble Nigeria, Soyinka criticized the actions of the Labour Party leadership during the last election, suggesting they were not equipped to govern Nigeria.

Soyinka went on to accuse Obi of orchestrating online trolling campaigns against himself and other prominent figures critical of the party’s campaign strategies. Referring to Obi’s supporters as ‘Obidients,’ Soyinka highlighted the vitriolic attacks he endured on social media platforms.

The literary icon condemned such behavior, attributing it to a lack of education and manipulation by political leaders. He warned against the consequences of fostering such attitudes among the youth, emphasizing the need for leaders capable of uniting diverse societal groups.

Expressing disappointment in Obi’s leadership approach, Soyinka voiced hope that Obi would not seek candidacy in the next election. He suggested that Obi’s failure to address the divisive tactics employed by his supporters demonstrated his unsuitability for national leadership.
