Nigerian Teams Triumph at Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 in China

Nigerian students have once again showcased their remarkable talents on the global stage, securing two grand prizes and two first prizes at the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Final. Held on May 26 in Shenzhen, China, this prestigious event is designed to help students enhance their ICT knowledge and practical skills. The success of the Nigerian teams highlights the nation’s growing prowess in the field of information and communication technology.

The Competition

The 8th edition of the Huawei ICT Competition, themed “Connection, Glory, and Future,” attracted more than 170,000 students from over 2,000 universities and colleges across more than 80 countries and regions. This year’s competition was the largest offline event since its inception, bringing together more than 160 teams consisting of over 470 contestants from 49 different countries and regions. These teams advanced through rigorous national and regional competitions to reach the global final.

Nigerian Teams’ Achievements
Four teams from Nigeria emerged victorious among the 19 teams from nine countries that won the Grand Prizes of the Practice and Innovation Competitions.
Grand Prize Winners

  1. Computing Track Category:
    • Team Members: Rufus Olusoji Adisa, Tolani Adekunle Adisa, Chibueze Emmanuel Ibekwe, and Lawrence Chukwuemeka.
    • University: University of Ibadan.
  2. Cloud Track Category:
    • Team Members: Lukman Oyeniyi Abdulyekeen, Sodiq Babawale, and Temiloluwa Oloye.
    • University: University of Ibadan.

First Prize Winners

  1. Network Track Category – Team 1:
    • Team Members: Knimi Bakna Musa, Kaosar Salaudeen Ahmad, Taiye Ayantola, and Oluwagbemiga Victor Ogundele.
    • University: Federal University of Technology, Minna.
  2. Network Track Category – Team 2:
    • Team Members: Justus Ilegieuno, Yusuf Olanrewaju Toye, and Jamiu Damilare Dahunsi.
    • University: Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Journey to Victory
The Nigerian students faced tough competition at the national level, testing their practical and theoretical digital skills. They then represented Nigeria at the regional level contest, where their exceptional performance qualified them for the finals in China.
