Aviation passengers stranded as Air Peace in massive flight cancellations from Abuja to Akure, Ilorin, Lagos

Several aviation passengers were stranded at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport for hours as Air Peace suddenly announced cancellation of their flights with no explanation.

The affected flights were from Abuja to Akure, Abuja to Ilorin and Abuja Lagos.

Aside announcing the cancellation of their flights, the officials of the airline refused to give any reason for the flight cancellation which took place while the passengers were already waiting to be checked in for the flight.

The most the airline could do for the baffled passengers was to make a promise to reach them through their e-mail addresses.

In the morning of Sunday, a customer care officer of Airpeace who picked the call one of the stranded passengers said she did not have any information to release to the affected passengers.

Also, a letter written to the airline to commence a process of refund was ignored by the airline as of the time of filing this report.

The sudden flight cancellation affected students of Elizade University, Ikaramokin, Akure who resuming for the Second Semester.

The sudden flight cancellation occurred a week after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority expressed concern over the incessant flight delays and cancellation by Air Peace.

A worried NCAA’s director-general (DG), Chris Najomo, advised the airline to structure its operations to the size of available aircraft to address the issue.

While some stranded passengers were engrossed in seeking ways out of Abuja, Air Peace announced that its aircraft killed an antelope at the Asaba Airport.

The airline said that the antelope caused a significant damage to the air craft and disrupted the airlines flight operations.

Michael Achimugu, the director of public affairs and consumer protection, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), announced the accident on X on Sunday.

“Monitoring reports yesterday indicated that an Air Peace aircraft ran into a large antelope, decimating the animal and leaving the aircraft AOG (aircraft on ground)

“As a result, flights meant to be operated by this aircraft would naturally be disrupted, even though engineers are on the ground to assess and fix the plane. Passengers waiting would naturally be infuriated.

“Incidents like this are literal illustrations of the disruptions NOT caused by the airlines (domestic or international).

“This explainer is for illustration purpose, not to excuse airlines when they fail to do their duties to passengers.”

While Achimugu said that the airline owes its passengers information, refunds, and other forms of care they are entitled to, Airpeace acted to the country until his post on X.
